Retinol
Retinol odos priežiūroje: Cell-turnover regulator, anti-ageing active.

Vitamin A in its alcohol form. Skin cannot use it directly: it converts retinol to retinaldehyde and then to retinoic acid, which is the form that binds the receptors in the cell nucleus and changes what the cell does. Every conversion step loses material, which is why a cosmetic retinol is far milder than prescription tretinoin, which is retinoic acid already and needs no conversion.
Ką jis daro ant odos
Through those nuclear receptors it speeds up the turnover of surface cells, unblocks follicles, redistributes pigment more evenly and, over months, increases collagen production in the dermis. That last part is why it is the reference ingredient for sun-damaged skin: it is one of the very few cosmetic actives with a plausible and demonstrated effect below the surface rather than on it.
Kiek verti įrodymai
Įrodymai:Stiprus
The strongest evidence is for prescription retinoic acid, where controlled trials over months to years show real change in fine lines, roughness and mottled pigment. Cosmetic retinol has its own smaller trials showing the same direction of effect at a lower magnitude. What is not supported is any of it working in weeks: three to six months is the honest timescale, and stopping resets you.
Kaip jis naudojamas
At night only, on dry skin, pea-sized for the whole face. Start twice a week and increase slowly. The first month of dryness, flaking and tightness is normal and is not a sign it is working better; it is a sign to slow down. Buffering with moisturiser first blunts the irritation and blunts the result far less than quitting does.
Tipinė koncentracija įprastai naudojant:0.1-0.3% in leave-on face products.
Dryness, flaking, redness and stinging in the first weeks affect most people. True allergy is rare. Skin around the eyes and the corners of the nose reacts first. Anyone with rosacea, eczema or a broken barrier should build up far more slowly or use a lower-irritation alternative.
Nėštumas ir žindymas
Nutraukiama nėštumo metu
Oral retinoid medicines are established causes of birth defects, and although topical absorption is low and harm from cosmetic retinol is not demonstrated, the standard advice from dermatology and maternity services is to stop topical retinoids while pregnant, while trying to conceive and while breastfeeding. Do not resolve this one from a label; ask the clinician looking after your pregnancy.
Saulės šviesa
Jautresnis saulei
Retinol degrades in light and air, which is why it belongs in an opaque, airtight package and on your face at night. It also thins the outer dead layer early on, so skin sunburns more easily during the adjustment period. Daily sunscreen is part of using it.
Taisyklės ir ženklinimas
The EU has restricted vitamin A in cosmetics: Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/996 caps retinol and its esters, expressed as retinol equivalent, at 0.05% in body lotion and 0.3% in other leave-on and rinse-off products, with labelling about total vitamin A exposure, and a transition period for stock already made. Products above those levels are not compliant EU cosmetics however they are marketed.
Su kuo jis dera ir su kuo ne
Best paired with a plain moisturiser and with sunscreen, and worst paired with an exfoliating acid, a scrub or benzoyl peroxide on the same night. Niacinamide alongside it is a reasonable pairing that many people find reduces the sting. Alternate rather than stack.
Vienas dalykas, kurį žmonės supranta neteisingai
The myth is that retinol thins the skin. It thins the dead outer layer for a few weeks, which is the flaking you can see, while thickening the living epidermis and dermis over months, which is the part you cannot. The second myth is that a higher percentage is simply better: past a point you get all of the irritation and none of the extra benefit, and irritated skin makes more pigment, not less.
Atitinkamas šios svetainės puslapis: Foods highest in vitamin A.

Ar nėštumo metu galima vartoti retinol?
Nutraukiama nėštumo metu. Ar retinol padaro odą jautresnę saulės šviesai?
Jautresnis saulei. Retinol degrades in light and air, which is why it belongs in an opaque, airtight package and on your face at night. It also thins the outer dead layer early on, so skin sunburns more easily during the adjustment period. Daily sunscreen is part of using it.
Kaip retinol vadinamas sudedamųjų dalių sąraše?
Retinol.
